New Delhi: On Thursday, Biological E. Ltd (BE) announced that it has already sent the Center 10 crore (100 million) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine Corbevax.
The city-based manufacturer of the vaccine claimed in a release that Biological E. Limited has so far given the Indian government 10 crore doses of Corbevax. The Corbevax immunisation programme for children aged 12 to 14 was launched in India on March 16, 2022, and as of today, about seven crore doses have been given and 2.9 crore kids have received both shots.
According to the manufacturer, the Union health ministry also gave Corbevax approval as a heterologous COVID-19 booster dosage under emergency use authorization for anyone 18 years of age and older following six months of primary immunisation (two doses) with Covaxin or Covishield.
The COVID-19 Working Group of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization’s most current recommendations served as the foundation for the health ministry’s approval (NTAGI).
Beginning on August 12, 2022, Corbevax is anticipated to be offered as a booster dosage via the CoWIN App in both public and private immunisation clinics.
The vaccine was previously given the go-ahead for emergency use as a heterologous COVID-19 booster dosage for those age 18 and over on June 4, 2022, by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI).
In a series of approvals from December 2021 to April 2022, the vaccine had acquired emergency use authorization as the principal two-dose immunisation schedule in adults, adolescents, and children aged five years and above.
For private COVID-19 immunisation clinics, Corbevax is available for Rs 250, GST included. The price was set at Rs 400 for the consumer, including taxes and administrative fees.
