On Friday, the National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a warning to prospective MBBS students about an advertisement that was published by Singhania University in newspapers in connection with MBBS seats. The NMC referred to the advertisement as “misleading.” The commission made it clear that the university’s admittance would be considered unlawful in the event that a medical student signed up for classes there.
“The aforementioned establishment has, in its advertisement that was published in various newspapers, claimed that the Honorable High Court, in the case of IGNOU, has held that there is no provision in the Indian Medical Council Act that authorises and empowers BoG-MCI to grant permission or recognition to IGNOU to enable it to take admission and impart education in MBBS and other medical courses. The advertisement also stated that the Honorable High Court has held that there is no provision in the Indian Medical Council Act. According to the statement made by the NMC, “the aforementioned institution deceitfully asserts that it is covered by a judgement of the High Court without referring to the cause title and the Court that has declared it.”
The advertisement that was published by Singhania University was deemed to be groundless and irrelevant by the NMC, which also stated that it violates the law in its entirety.
“It should be brought to your attention that the claim that has been made by the Singhania University is in violation of the terms of the Indian Medical Council Act, which was passed in 1956, as well as the NMC Act, which was passed in 2019 and the rules that were formed thereunder. Accordingly, any admissions that are made by the Singhania University in Pacheri Bari, District Jhunhunu, Rajasthan, in the course of medicine (MBBS) are illegal and void from the very beginning,” the NMC clarified.
