Dear Editor,
I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Professor Mark Ashworth. I first met Mark in the 1990s when we were both beginning our academic careers, combining our passion for research with clinical roles in NHS general practice in South East London.
Mark made significant and lasting contributions to academic primary care. I had the privilege of collaborating with him on several research articles, and I fondly recall the times we worked together to refine these papers, often meeting at his home. During those visits, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to meet his family, including his wife Susan and their children, who always made me feel warmly welcomed.
Beyond his academic achievements, Mark was a true innovator in clinical practice. He transformed his GP partnership into a successful, multi-practice organisation, setting an example of excellence in patient care and practice management.
Mark’s loss will be deeply felt by his patients, colleagues, and the academic and clinical communities. His dedication, kindness, and vision leave a profound legacy. He will be greatly missed.
