Dr Aronson’s article make me think of the distribution of KNOWLEDGE resulting from a medical intervention.
The Bell curve of response might well show us how to treat the majority of afflicted patients. It tells us nothing about why some patients respond and others don’t.
The knowledge lies at the tail ends of the curve. The questions to be asked are: why did some patients do so well, and why did others do so badly.
Too often, the tails are ignored in research.
