Dear Editor
Staff wellbeing IS DEFINITELY more important than ever, but not just in primary healthcare; it is equally important in secondary and tertiary care settings, and the model(s) can also be replicated in Social Care, that is inextricably linked to healthcare.
Before rushing for new solutions, we may consider the following:
– re-visit the Boorman Report of 2009 (ref) and Dr Steven Boorman’s landmark NHS health and wellbeing review and the recommendations therein.
– consider the Health and Safety legal duties placed on Employers towards those working in these sectors, as regulated by the Care Quality Commission and the Health and Safety Executive, with the aim to keep those working there healthy and safe.
– and last, but not least, to simply implement what is required as good practice, and reasons of statute and the civil law duty of care.
And yes, some central funding will be required for some of this, no doubt!
