BENGALURU/UDUPI: On Wednesday, the Income Tax (I-T) department conducted search and seizure operations at a variety of locations, including hospitals in Bengaluru and Udupi that are owned by the Manipal Group.
Both the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) office in Manipal, which is located in the Udupi district, and the Manipal Hospitals office in Bengaluru were searched by the tax officials.

Dr. Ranjan R. Pai, who also serves as Chairman of the MAHE Trust, is the company’s owner. The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) is a globally engaged educational institution that has partnerships with over 220 of the world’s most prestigious educational institutions. It also has a huge campus. There are more than 28,000 students here, and they come from 57 different nations.

Sources claim that representatives from MAHE’s IT department arrived at the Edu Building of the hospital at approximately six in the morning and started looking for documents on the fourth level of the Edu Building, which is where the finance department is located.

Officials from the I.T. department conducted a search at MAHE, Manipal, the year before as well. Akshay M. Hakay, the Superintendent of Police for the Udupi district, stated that the I-T detectives had had police protection during their investigation. A spokeswoman for MAHE stated that it was a routine task and that he was unable to say anything at this time but that more information would be provided in the future.

It was not until late in the night when sources told that the IT detectives had departed the MAHE campus, and it is reported that the search may continue overnight and on Friday as well due to the large number of papers that need to be examined. Sources in Bengaluru have revealed that the Manipal Hospitals that are located on Old Airport Road and Millers Road were investigated by the Information Technology detectives.

Early in the morning, a group of authorities travelled in four vehicles to the hospital on Millers Road, where they examined a number of documents after arriving there. It has been verified by the staff practising medicine at the hospital that the I-T surgery did not result in any discomfort for the patients.
