Dear Editor
I am proud to say that Angelo DiGeorge was my father. I want to commend the authors of this article. The story as related here is exactly how I remember my father explaining it.
I know that the vast majority of “DiGeorge families” worldwide prefer the “DiGeorge Syndrome” label over the nameless and clinically sterile “22q deletion syndrome”. No parent wants their child to have a “deletion syndrome”.
Angelo DiGeorge, MD was a remarkable scientist who made many medical discoveries. Dad’s greatest discovery was establishing the role of the thymus gland in human immunological function. This is arguably a Nobel worthy achievement. Simply stated, Angelo DiGeorge is the “Father of the T-Cell”.
The T-Cell research happening around the world today is about to completely revolutionize medicine. It all started with a brilliant Philadelphia scientist named Angelo DiGeorge. Accordingly, I sincerely hope that all scientific authors will continue to give credit where credit is due and continue to use the “DiGeorge Syndrome” moniker when discussing DiGeorge Syndrome.
Respectfully,
Christopher A. DiGeorge, Esq.
