Dear Editor

Owen Dyer makes reference to PubPeer. There are though concerns raised by some on the site as the web site operates in a similar way to Twitter. Anonymous responses to research, some of which may not be altogether trustworthy, have it seems created some anxiety for researchers who are not keen to get enmeshed in disputes with the responders via the website. The comments are therefore visible as uncontested. It is of course unfortunate that responders do feel a need for anonymity. But is this a reliable way of debating research?
