National Health Executive hosted a virtual panel discussion back in September 2022, which focused on ‘NHS Procurement Data, Information and Transparency’.
High-quality data and transparency are key to improvements in patient care and safety. Over the years we have seen an increasing level of openness and availability of data in NHS procurement which plays a crucial role in improving services and decision making.
The recent introduction of Integrated Care Systems should create many benefits in sharing data amongst providers and preventing issues before they arise. But there are always improvements that can be made in how data is collected, published, and examined.
This virtual discussion reflected on how far we’ve come in sharing data, the opportunities to make further improvements and how to examine data not in isolation but in the context of greater value for money, better quality, and improved patient care.
Panellists:
- Sara Ford, Strategy Executive Director, NHS Supply Chain
- Nils Van De Winkel, Head of Procurement Data, NHS England
- Steve Balding, Commercial System and Data Data Stratergy Programme Director, Department of Health and Social Care
