Pune: Sassoon Hospital nurses strike against transfer of president of state nurse’s organisation

Pune: Demanding the cancellation of the illegal transfer of the state head of the nurse’s organization, the nurses associated with Sassoon General Hospital  (SGH) recently joined the one-day strike organised by Maharashtra State Nursing Association.

Raising their voice against injustice, members of the association threatened that they would stop the work from December 21 if the hospital failed to address the cancellation of the transfer of the state head of the nurse organization.

The protest was staged in support of the nurse, Manisha Shinde, who has been directed to transfer from the Sassoon hospital to another hospital. Shinde is a president of the Maharashtra state nurse’s organisation having its headquarters in Latur and she was also a nurse’s teacher at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj general hospital of Solapur.

Although the nurses held a one-day strike to convince the authorities to revoke the transfer order and threatened to stop work from December 21, they have also announced to go on a state-wide protest from December 26 if the authorities fail to take action in time.

While continuing their protest, the nurses have not stopped their duty towards the patients on Tuesday and delivered the health services smoothly.

The officials of the hospital on Tuesday noted that the strike did not affect the patients and routine work at the hospital. Furthermore, they managed to maintain the responsibility of both sides.

Nurse and member of the association Baba Karale informed HT, “We are protesting against the injustice, however, we have not stopped work on Tuesday to not cause any inconvenience to patients.”

“We will continue our protest and wear black bands. And, demonstrations across the association in the state will continue. However, in the best interest of patients we have not stopped work,” said Karale.
