On Saturday night, a 19-year-old first-year MBBS student at Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences in Saifai, Etawah, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a ceiling fan hook in his room at the university’s hostel.
The deceased student was identified by the police as Himanshu Gupta, a native of the Gyanpuram colony in Gorakhpur.
A freshman at Saifai med university was discovered hanging in a hostel room.
“On August 16, he returned to the university’s Shakya Muni hostel after celebrating Rakshabandhan in his hometown,” police said. The incident came to light late on a Saturday evening when his roommates from adjacent rooms visited to take him to the mess for dinner.
They alerted the hostel warden, who in turn notified the local police after repeated attempts to contact the individual failed. The police rushed to the scene, forced open the doors, and discovered the suspect hanging from the ceiling fan’s hook.
Claims and Counters
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of India, ordered an investigation into Himanshu’s death after his parents suspected foul play and demanded a CBI investigation.
The CM has requested a 24-hour report from the SP and DM of Etawah.
Alleging that their son was murdered by the college administration, Himanshu’s parents stated that only the CBI could solve the mysteries of why cameras on the college campus were turned off at the time of the incident, why they were notified of their child’s death so late, and, if Himanshu had committed suicide, from where did the injury marks on his body originate?
According to Satyapal Singh, additional superintendent of police (rural), the deceased student was alone in his hostel room.
“The reason for the student’s extreme action remains unknown. “However, it has become apparent that the youth has been ill for the past few months,” he continued.
“Because he didn’t show up to the mess for dinner on Saturday night, his batchmates visited his room at the Muni hostel on university grounds,” he told TOI on Sunday. “Himanshu had hanged himself in his room,” they discovered afterward.
“After preliminary investigations by police and forensic experts, the body was transferred to a morgue, where an autopsy will be performed on Monday,” he said.
